Demons Souls is also being called a remake. Something like the 2018 Shadow of the Colossus. Bloodborne is just the game at 60fps with ultra widescreen support and minor QoL improvements.

Hot take - Magus hasn't fallen too far from where he always truly was. Go back and read stuff from 2003. The hype for Magus was unbelievable. Everyone thought he would be a top 10 character at the absolute worst. And in his five matches from 2003-04, only one of them even remotely supported that belief, and yet that was the one we all chose to cling onto and insist that he was #10. His "downfall" really wasn't even a downfall so much as it exposed a wonky result in one match that could easily be chalked up to Link fatigue as we saw play out as that contest went on.

I think this is bang on. Some additional evidence for this would be how weirdly strong it made Sam Fisher look - Magus was never that strong, he had one good result.

I used to be predominantly PC, then my PC got old so predominantly console, and now both equally due to older games.

PC is a much better proposition if you have access, but access itself is a barrier due to upfront hardware cost. However with a new generation (and one where almost everything will come to PC, even most Sony games probably) it seems like a good time to get back in.

Edit: Also good luck getting new console games for less than 45. 50 is the standard now even for retail games at the cheaper retailers. Digital is sometimes more expensive, but you get more sales. PC gaming is still cheaper. It's also worth noting that physical PC games do still exist and are often the cheapest option, though a lot of them are just download codes in a box.

Well Bloodborne being just a port compared to Demons Souls being a full remaster/remake makes it a bit more believable that both would be there, one could even lead into the other. However, you wouldnt expect both to be available at launch.

I certainly hope Demons Souls comes to PC/PS4 as boy does that game need a remaster, but I definitely dont want to get a new console for it.

Oh interesting, I had heard the RE8 rumours but not that it was supposed to be here. I suppose it could also turn up elsewhere this month as well.

Two others:

-Bloodborne PC/PS5 port by QLOC (Dark Souls Remastered) and Bluepoint. Seems very believable, has been reported by multiple sources now.

-The big one, the return of Silent Hill. This is much dodgier. It also doesn't help that there were numerous rumours that were outright ridiculous like the Kojima ones or the "Sony is buying Silent Hill" ones, which have now been debunked. What is possible is the rumour that there will be a SIlent Hill game put out by Konami but with support from Sony. However, take this one with a massive grain of salt.

Demons Souls remaster by Bluepoint is the main rumour, and also the only reliable rumour I know of. Apparently this might close the event which is odd.

Great MGS3 banner. Easily the best Metal Gear story (and game), though perhaps the most remarkable thing about it is how it illustrates how much Kojimas writing went off a cliff after Fukushima left early in MGS4s development.

I think it's an incredibly dated game in regards to the three serious topics its known for (queer youth relationships, youth suicide, and disability), and its timidness in actually talking about these subjects instead of cheaply using them as hooks or cliffhangers betrays a lack of understanding in things they're writing about.

What Life is Strange is is a very good coming-of-age story with two excellent lead performances that carry it beyond its weak writing.

I dont really agree based on relating my own experiences to the game, but then again I havent played it since it was nee do my feelings might change. It was perhaps a sledgehammer rather than a scalpel, but given how many games dont even bother I think even that deserves credit. I also think that a lot of young people took away positive messages, definitely more than the opposite. That is a good thing.

On the other hand, I do agree with you on the topic of queer relationships. The whole thing feels like it was thrown in late as a hook like you said, and gives you the unfortunate subtext of the only way to actually confirm that relationship being to kill one of the characters. Its also entirely missable, I didnt go down that road do wasnt as put off by that. I feel there are other serious issues you didnt raise that it handles much better.

Either way, I think its interesting that weve got people both praising and bemoaning the handling of serious issues in this topic. It certainly beats David Cage at least!

Life is Strange was mot on my list, but:

Life is Strange is a really remarkable story that isnt afraid to actually try and tackle some serious subjects head on. It also isnt afraid to turn the Telltale-esque concept of choice on its head by giving you the chance to go back and change your choices after seeing the consequences, which makes you have to live with your final decision. It also deserves credit for improving the dialogue as it went along too so by the end they sound like actual teens.

Models are not polls.

Its not a lie as anybody can look at the data. The polls for swing states Trump won either favoured him or were statistical ties other than Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Of the 13 statistical ties Trump won 8 so its not like he dominated the tossups. People were not paying attention. The person who said 99% in articular was a fool and actively harmful, though the 538 model got it right like foolmo says.

Not what happened. The nationwide polls showed Hilary winning by the same margin she then won the popular vote with. Looking at the statewide polls, the only states outside the margin of error were Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. So the statewide polls were effectively correct in 49/51 contests. Even if those two had gone for Hillary as projected, Trump still would have won. The polls were right in 2016, that's the point.

The issue is that people looked at the nationwide polls, thought "well I guess Trump has no chance" and didn't pay attention to the statewide polling. And Trump didn't have a chance, he lost nationwide. But that's not what decides who the president is. Right now the statewide polls are pretty clearly in Biden's favour. At the end of the day they only show the voting intention for right now, but polls do work and are usually accurate.

This is totally wrong. Polls show a large majority of support, and the data suggests that Trump's moves are extremely risky for him. Indeed Biden has increased his polling lead significantly since the protests began. This is mostly due to undecideds switching to Biden, with Trump's support dropping a bit as well. It is in fact the opposite of what you say - Biden's support for the protests and Trump's disastrous response have helped Biden, not Trump. At the end of the day a small minority of looters doesn't invalidate or represent the large peaceful majority, and if it did, it doesn't compare to a thousand extrajudicial murders every year.

Trump isn't doing what he's doing because he believes it will help him. The strategic response (and effective) would be very cautious. He's doing it because he's finally tipped over into believing that military oppression and murder of civilians by the state is right. If the election was today, Trump would get wrecked. The issue is of course that it's not today and there is always time for things to go horribly wrong.

I only put 999 and not VLR.

Really the entire series is worth it, and it was hard to choose. In the end I didnt pick ZTD because it has the best bits and the ropiest bits, and VLR because it is very clearly a bridge. 999 works as a complete story and has no real holes or dodgy bits. It was only +2 though.

Yes there is the other side of that which is the people overcorrecting due to their hype backlash, and going "I hate this game now" or rooting for it to lose in GotD because people liked it and wanted it to win matches. That's obviously silly.

Yep they actually course corrected very quickly on the franchise, and it became clear that they were taking it seriously as a significant series for them worldwide. I can't help but feel that if the Switch had existed in 2015 Xenoblade Chronicles X would have been a big hit. They promoted all of those games well, they localised them quickly and well, and since 2 there have been simultaneous worldwide releases. Nintendo obviously realised their mistake very quickly. When you compare it to Fire Emblem, Xenoblade fared much better. Or better yet compare it to the way Sony treated Demon's Souls. We can be less insecure about this series now!

I didn't consider Love Deterrence because it's never in lists of themes, and it wasn't on the album. I guess it is a character theme while the rest are game themes, even Quiet's Theme. But I suppose it's reasonable for it to be eligible so go ahead with write-ins if you want.

Hype backlash is a real thing, and the game doesn't really need to be hyped by the board any more. It came out of the fact that this game almost didn't come out on the continent most of the board lives in and seemed to depend on fan engagement to actually succeed and come out there. The only reason the game actually got a NA release was because it was very successful in Europe, which was itself because of a lot of the online hype. That's why some people on here still evangelise it so hard. Once that started it just never really stopped.

Personally the game is one of my all time favourites but I really don't think the way some hype it here is necessary. I always thought the GotY whatever meme was lame. It's like guys, Xenoblade has made it big now and has an amazing reception, you can calm down. It's a bit like if I was out there talking about this hip new series you should play - it's called Fire Emblem, not sure if you've heard of it...

A big surprised that Red Dead Redemption 2 wouldnt have made if without my points, and that only two others had it. But with that in mind it also doesnt surprise me that it has the highest point average. It was my +10, it is the absolute peak of AAA storytelling IMO. I get that B8 doesnt necessarily go to Rockstar games for story and until now they would be right! This is unbelievable stuff though.

So now it seems that my entire list will make it! There are only two left. Also, 39-41 on the updated list are all in my top four haha.

Given that I nearly got harassed off the board for disliking it, I definitely don't miss those days. If people like it that's fine but there was a very, very unhealthy protectiveness that developed just because it was the last one (until it wasn't). That is not healthy fandom.

Anyway, on a lighter note here are my thoughts on each game:

31. Deadly Premonition - Ridiculous game and story, wouldn't entertain it this high, but I love it. Takes too much from Twin Peaks (but I love that too).

32. Grim Fandango - Never played.

33. Final Fantasy Tactics - Not seen enough of.

34. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Great, on my list, one of the best examples of that style of RPG storytelling.

35. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - Really bad.

36. To the Moon - Never played but I really should.

37. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony - Never played.

38. Utawarerumono Mask of Deception & Mask of Truth - Never played, and I've only barely heard of it from this place.

39. Mother 3 - Great stuff.

40. Horizon Zero Dawn - Ehh. The backstory is great, the main story is there. Although even the backstory was done arguably better by another game the same year (Xenoblade Chronicles 2). It's alright.

41. Persona 5 & Persona 5 Royal - I really like this one, despite its issues. The themes are very strong and resonant, and it works them into the game itself beautifully.

41. Xenoblade Chronicles - Love it, on my list. The perfect example of how top-notch writing, direction, localisation, and performances can elevate something that could have been
pretty rote.

43. What Remains of Edith Finch - Stellar, not really sure why it wasn't on my list now that I think about it.

44. Spec Ops: The Line - Excellent, barely cut from my list because I think it implements the white phosphorous sequence (which is really well done in its own right) in a somewhat contrived manner. I always thought you should have been able to retreat there, ending the game and rolling credits.

44. Tales of Berseria - Not played much but what I have seen seems promising.

46. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - Never played it but should.

46. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Never came close to thinking about putting it, but I get it. The story is well implemented into the game and this is a case where I think memories of the story trump the story itself.

48. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers - Never played, seems interesting.

49. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Top notch for entertainment, the airport paperbacks of the video game world (in a good way!).

49. Tales of the Abyss - What I have seen doesn't seem great.

49. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Alas this is not "best setting". Actually have no problem with this being below OoT though I wouldn't put either. Great setting though.

52. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Never played, but should have.

53. Dark Souls - I gave this the lowest spot on my list because I feel the storytelling is really fascinating and intricate. I also think that it is still the best representation of the themes and feel of high fantasy, specifically the themes of Tolkien, in video games.

53. Doki Doki Literature Club - Never played, seems interesting.

53. Vagrant Story - Never played.

56. Gone Home - Loved it until the ending, in particular the sheer audacity of the bait and switch, spoiled the whole thing.

56. Outer Wilds - Amazing. This was fairly high on my list and more people should check it out. There has really been nothing like this in games.

58. Gyakuten Kenji 2 - Didn't finish it but what I did play was really enjoyable.

58. Yakuza 0 - Never played it but what I watched Giant Bomb play seemed cool.

60. SOMA - Terrific. This was one of the top three on my list that seemed rock solid for me. You should play this regardless of your preferences for genre or types of story, this is my top recommendation in this topic.

60. Super Paper Mario - Wins the award for the game that punches the most above its weight. Really great stuff, easily the best Mario RPG story (and Mario story more generally). Not near my list but close to my heart.
